Data centers in Coweta County, Georgia: 5 projects mapped

Coweta County, southwest of Atlanta, approved one of the largest data center campuses in Georgia on April 7, 2026, and was sued over it within a month. Project Sail, from Atlas Development, calls for nine buildings on about 830 acres near Georgia Power's Plant Yates, using an expected 900 megawatts and 6 million gallons of water a day. Commissioners split 3-2 to approve it, and seventeen residents, farmers and landowners have since sued in Coweta County Superior Court to void the rezoning.

The lawsuit argues the land was designated for rural and agricultural use and lies in what the state calls a "Most Significant Groundwater Recharge Area," and that the developer's own fiscal study puts the tax benefit at about $20.7 million a year, not the $100 million the developer projected. Opponent Melanie Tomlinson presented 7,820 signatures against the project; supporter Al Smith said, "This is a no-brainer for the county, and I'll stake my political career on it."

Three smaller projects are also moving through the county: Microsoft's 96-megawatt Project Rita in Fayetteville, already approved; T5 Data Centers' proposed T5 Palmetto site; and Project Peach, a 700-megawatt proposal from North Coweta Investors. A fourth, Central Coweta Industrial Phase II, has been blocked. Coweta's freeze on new data center applications, in place since May 2025, has no end date.
