Project Bunkhouse data center, Cartersville, Georgia

Digital Realty's Project Bunkhouse is under construction on the former Gaines family cattle farm along Taff Road in Bartow County. Sole Commissioner Steve Taylor approved a rezoning requested by Taurus DC SPE LLC on June 4, 2025. In an August 2026 statement, the county described the Stilesboro-area campus as planned for about 1.3 gigawatts of computing capacity and roughly $18 billion of investment over a buildout projected to take about ten years. The county said the campus was still in construction and had not begun operating.

The project's early state filing proposed 12 buildings with almost 8.7 million square feet of floor space on about 877 acres. The county's later rezoning approval capped floor space at 8.3 million square feet and required buffers before buildings open, water-efficiency measures and compliance with county data-center rules. Main access must come from Taff Road; Floyd Creek Church Road is limited to secondary and emergency access. These conditions changed the scale and layout proposed in the first filing.

Neighbors raised concerns about the loss of farmland, water and power use, and possible new transmission lines near Plant Bowen. At the rezoning meeting, a project representative told one neighbor that the needed power infrastructure was already in place. The county says it has granted no local tax abatement for the campus; Digital Realty forecasts more than 800 jobs once the buildout is complete. Those jobs and the county's investment estimate are projections, while the buildings are still being developed.

Bartow County adopted stricter data-center standards in July 2026, including closed-loop or equivalent cooling, a 200-foot buffer next to residential districts and nighttime noise limits. The county's August statement says the Digital Realty campus remains under construction and that only its land value has entered the tax digest so far. Building and equipment values will be assessed as the campus is completed, so the county's projected investment is not current tax revenue.
