Data centers in Douglas County, Georgia: 11 projects mapped

Douglas County has at least 11 data center sites, most already operating, and in July 2026 commissioners rejected a large new one for the second time in seven months. EdgeConneX, filing as East Village Dothan LLC, wanted about 700 acres near Liberty Road rezoned for six buildings and a substation; part of the site lies in the Dog River Basin, the county's main water source. Commissioners voted 4-1 to deny it, following a unanimous no from the Planning and Zoning Commission.

The county's planning manager, Allison Duncan, said unincorporated Douglas County already has about 2.5 million square feet of data center space in eight buildings, including STACK Infrastructure's 160-megawatt Lithia Springs campus, Switch's 150-megawatt Switch Keep, and sites for Google, Aligned Data Centers, DataBank, T5 Data Centers, CoreWeave/Flexential and Microsoft; Digital Realty runs two more in Austell. She warned the county was at risk of overbuilding. "That's what a data center sounds like," said resident Eileen Roberts, playing a recording of industrial whirring at the hearing. "That's 365 days a year, 24/7."

The county has also paused new applications for data centers larger than 50,000 square feet since March 2026, a freeze extended to study what new power lines would cost ratepayers. "New power generation infrastructure ... tends to require 40 to 50 years to pay off," Duncan said.
