Data centers in Monroe County, Michigan: 1 project mapped

Houston-based Cloverleaf Infrastructure, which prepares land and power for data centers and then finds a company to build on them, has made two proposals in Monroe County. It withdrew its first, the 750-acre Project Ironwood spanning Dundee and Milan townships, in October 2025 after opposition; Dundee Township then adopted a moratorium and extended it six months in January 2026. Its second, Project Cherry Blossom, is a proposed campus on the former River Raisin Golf Course in Frenchtown Township, which the township now owns and Cloverleaf wants to buy.

Residents organized as Protect Frenchtown, and dozens joined a January 18 protest against both projects. Frenchtown's township board adopted a temporary moratorium on data centers on March 10, 2026, with no end date set, while its planning commission reviews it. A recall petition targets Supervisor Al VanWashenova, Treasurer Sheila Bussell and Trustee Julie Ellison over their attendance at a November 2025 Cloverleaf presentation; petitioners had until July 31, 2026 to submit 2,124 valid signatures for each official, and no result has been published.

Cloverleaf says on its project website that Cherry Blossom would bring more than 1,000 construction jobs and closed-loop cooling, and pay for any power upgrades so other DTE customers' rates do not rise; it is negotiating a community benefits agreement with the township. What comes next: the township's final action on its moratorium and any sale of the golf course land to Cloverleaf.
