Project Ironwood (Cloverleaf Infrastructure) data center, Dundee, Michigan

Cloverleaf Infrastructure withdrew its agreement for Project Ironwood, a data center it had examined on a 750 acre site spanning Dundee and Milan townships in Monroe County, Michigan, in October 2025, after local opposition. Dundee Township, where the Village of Dundee sits, later put its own moratorium on data center projects, running from December 9, 2025 to June 22, 2027.

Cloverleaf, a powered land company, had a pre-development agreement with the Village of Dundee, but pulled it before a council vote after dozens of residents turned out to protest. "They needed water from us and everything from Monroe [County], we're just going to say no now," Dundee Village President Tim Bordine told WTOL11. Development principal Michael Evans wrote to the village council: "In hindsight, Cloverleaf should have done more public communication and listening prior to bringing this forward."

Cloverleaf's own project site still describes Project Ironwood as in the development phase, on about 350 acres already zoned industrial, with a closed-loop cooling system and more than 200 long-term jobs claimed. Asked why residents did not know the end user, the company said after an October 8, 2025 town hall that it would look for one to build and operate the data center once it had local approvals and power.

Other Monroe County townships have followed Dundee with their own moratoriums: Erie Township's began March 16, 2026. Frenchtown Township drafted its own data center moratorium in March, and Berlin Township's planning commission has taken up a data center ordinance. A statewide tracking effort by the news outlet Gander Newsroom, last updated in September 2026, lists Project Ironwood among the Michigan data center proposals that have collapsed.
