Data centers in Hinds County, Mississippi: 1 project mapped

Amazon Web Services opened a data center in Clinton on June 9, 2026, in the former Milwaukee Tool building at 1001 Industrial Park Drive. It is AWS's fourth data center in Mississippi, and local leaders said it would bring more than 100 technology jobs. AWS's Roger Wehner said the site will not use water for cooling.

The project moved fast and, at first, without a name. Talks began in July 2025, and on January 15, 2026 the Clinton Board of Aldermen and the Hinds County Board of Supervisors, at special meetings, approved a deal with an unnamed company to pay a yearly fee instead of normal property taxes. WLBT later found a deed showing the 99-acre site went to Amazon Data Services on February 13. Mayor Will Purdie called the $750 million project the "largest economic development project in the history of the city and Hinds County."

Since then, Clinton has changed its zoning so that any future data center needs a conditional use permit, with a Planning Commission hearing before the Board of Aldermen votes. A separate ordinance setting buffers, screening and setbacks for data centers was drafted in July 2026 but had not yet gone to the board for a vote.
