Thurston County's only tracked data center is the state's own. The 1500 Jefferson Building on the East Capitol Campus in Olympia, completed in 2011, is a six-story office building with a three-story wing that wraps around a data center built for the Department of Enterprise Services and Consolidated Technology Services, now Washington Technology Solutions, or WaTech. WaTech says the site is its primary data center location, backed by a secondary site in eastern Washington, built to Tier 3 standards, so state agencies don't each need to run their own servers.
The larger data center debate in Washington is decided on the same campus, in the Legislature. In 2026 lawmakers voted to end the sales tax break for replacement server equipment at data centers from July 1, 2026, a change Gov. Bob Ferguson requested. House Bill 2515, which would have made utilities charge large data centers for the cost of serving them and required reports on their energy and water use, passed the House but died in the Senate. Its sponsor, Rep. Beth Doglio, D-Olympia, said she will bring it back.
No commercial data center has been proposed in Thurston County in published reporting, and the state does not publish a capacity or power figure for its own Olympia facility.
