32 Mile Technical Campus data center, Washington Township, Michigan

Prologis, a San Francisco real estate company, wants to build a technical campus and data center on 312 acres on the south side of 32 Mile Road, between M-53 and Powell Road, in Washington Township, Macomb County, Michigan. Prologis withdrew its rezoning application on May 19, 2026, saying it would wait until the township adopts a data center ordinance before trying again. Washington Township trustees passed a six-month moratorium on all data center applications on May 23, 2026, running through November 23, 2026.

More than 100 residents packed a December 11, 2025 planning commission hearing after over 170 people had emailed in, most of them opposed, and the commission postponed a decision for a month rather than vote that night. Almont resident John Ardelean said the project "would take us backwards 40 years, instead of propelling us forward 20 years," and Washington Township resident Corinne Graper, who started a Facebook group against it, called the slow rollout "death by a thousand paper cuts." Not everyone opposed it: retired IT worker Fred Hakim argued the power and water upgrades the project would force utilities to make would help the whole township, since "DTE has no incentive to improve our infrastructure" otherwise. No megawatt figure for the project was ever published; before the December hearing, Prologis told Planet Detroit it was "still early in evaluating what could work best on the site." In its May 19 withdrawal letter, Prologis said it plans to reapply once the township adopts rules for data centers.
