Amazon Web Services' first data center in Malaysia is being built on Persiaran APEC in Cyberjaya, Selangor, according to a project signboard photographed in August 2024. The signboard showed a multi-phase project, including the data center itself, offices and other buildings, overseen by the Sepang municipal council, with no construction start or completion date given.
AWS launched its Malaysia cloud region, based in this area, on August 22, 2024, and pledged to invest $6 billion in the country by 2037. The company said the investment would add about $12.1 billion to Malaysia's economy and support an average of 3,500 jobs a year at outside businesses through 2038.
Cyberjaya is one of Malaysia's three main data center hubs, along with Kuala Lumpur and Johor, and the operator NTT also has a data center on the same road. As of the most recent published report, in August 2024, the timeline and size of the AWS building itself remained unknown.
