Google Elmina Business Park data center, Selangor, Malaysia

Google's first data center in Malaysia is under construction at Sime Darby Property's Elmina Business Park in the City of Elmina township, Sungai Buloh, Selangor, outside Kuala Lumpur. Google expects the data center to start operating within nine months, a Google infrastructure executive told Media Selangor in August 2026, though no exact date has been set. "Development has been progressing very well. Construction has been very good," said Ken Siah, Google's Asia Pacific global infrastructure principal.

Google has not published the site's power or water use, but Bernama reported in August 2025, citing an investment bank research note, that the first phase is designed for 100 megawatts of power and a second phase could add 200 to 250 more megawatts. Air Selangor confirmed Google had asked for a water supply allocation for the facility, which its chief executive called "a substantial demand," and Google requested treated potable water, Bernama reported.

"Diverting significant amounts of treated water to industrial facilities such as data centres may compromise water security for other consumers, particularly in high-demand areas," said Ahmad Faizal Abdul Rahman, chief executive of the National Water Services Commission. "I'm worried that the needs of this mega project may be prioritised as they may have been promised uninterrupted water and electricity supply," said Mohd Faris Mohd Razali, who lives in the nearby Elmina Green neighborhood. In September 2026, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said the state would not approve any data center project without enough water and electricity supply.

The data center is part of a $2 billion investment Google announced in May 2024, which also covers its first Malaysian Google Cloud region, and Google projects more than $3.2 billion in economic impact by 2030. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim attended the groundbreaking on October 1, 2024, and Sime Darby Property then targeted completion in early 2026.

Sime Darby Property is building the data center to Google's specifications and leasing it for 20 years to Pearl Computing Malaysia, a Google-affiliated company, W.Media reported. The first project covers 49 acres, and a second Google data center of 77 acres, worth RM5.6 billion and due by 2027, was announced for the same park in December 2024.

Google says the site will use water cooling, which it says uses less energy than air cooling, and as part of its water stewardship it will work with the Global Environment Centre and Petaling Jaya City Council to restore Taman Aman Lake. Siah said construction alone is expected to create about 4,200 jobs, and Sime Darby Property expects the whole Elmina Business Park to create about 35,000 jobs by the time it is completed in 2035.
