AWS Offaly Eco Energy Park data center, Bord na Móna Eco Energy Park, County Offaly

Amazon Web Services plans to develop data centers at Bord na Móna's Eco Energy Park in County Offaly, in Ireland's Midlands about 100km west of Dublin, as the first business to join the park. The partnership, announced on April 30, 2024, is subject to regulatory and planning consent, and the number, size and timing of the data centers have not been shared. AWS would draw power from Bord na Móna's renewable developments under a long-term power purchase agreement.

The Eco Energy Park, announced in 2021, is planned on 3,000 hectares of Bord na Móna land close to the M6 motorway at Rochfortbridge in Westmeath, taking in parts of counties Offaly and Meath. The park is to host low to zero-carbon generation from wind, solar and gas, along with energy storage. As part of the deal AWS signed a 105-megawatt power purchase agreement for the 21-turbine Derrinlough Wind Farm in west Offaly and pledged to back an 800-megawatt pipeline of new renewable projects in Ireland.

"We can co-locate these large companies with our renewable energy assets to offer a sustainable pathway to grid capacity that is backed up with Flexible Technology power as required," said Bord na Móna chief executive Tom Donnellan. Ireland's energy regulator ruled in 2025 that future data centers must meet 80 per cent of their energy needs from additional Irish renewable plants, a rule AWS's Ireland lead Niamh Gallagher said creates long-term demand for new green power.

Most of Ireland's data centers are around Dublin, where Amazon has campuses in Clonshaugh, Blanchardstown and Tallaght and has reportedly held back some projects because of a moratorium on new grid connections.

In May 2026 Gallagher said the Derrinlough deal was among AWS's Irish renewable agreements, part of its 800-megawatt goal for new generation.
