EdgeCore Digital Infrastructure is shrinking its data center campus at the southwest corner of Elliot Road and Everton Terrace in Mesa, Maricopa County, Arizona, to make room for the utility Salt River Project (SRP) to expand its substation. In March 2026, Mesa's Planning and Zoning Board approved EdgeCore's request to cut the project by 800,000 square feet to 1.2 million, on its consent agenda with no debate. The revised plan is two buildings of 618,480 square feet each, down from three approved in 2024.

EdgeCore, based in Denver, already had one data hall running and two more under construction in January 2024, when it secured $1.9 billion in financing for a campus it then described as more than 3.1 million square feet and 450 megawatts of power. No source has given a new power figure for the smaller, 1.2 million-square-foot plan. The site sits in the Eastmark community between an Apple data center and a Meta data center on Mesa's technology corridor.

The March approval requires a noise study, limits generator testing to 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and calls for murals and equipment screening before the buildings can open; city staff said no neighbors within 750 feet objected. Mesa has had 15 data centers built, approved or proposed on 1,500 acres in under a decade, and the City Council has since limited new ones to industrial land, a rule EdgeCore applied before.

Nearby, residents are fighting a separate, unrelated NTT Global Data Centers campus proposed at Pecos and Crismon roads, citing water use and health concerns; that project still needs City Council approval. Gov. Katie Hobbs has called for ending Arizona's data center tax incentives, but Republican lawmakers have rejected the idea, the Mesa Tribune reported.

What remains for EdgeCore's Mesa campus is meeting the March approval's conditions, including a Federal Aviation Administration review of every structure because the site is near Mesa Gateway Airport, before the city issues certificates of occupancy.
