Cielo Digital Infrastructure, a data center developer owned by Texas-based Arroyo Investors, lists a 159-acre site in Minooka, in Grundy County, Illinois, among its planned projects. Its website says the Minooka land could hold up to 500 megawatts of data centers. Cielo, founded in 2023, earlier developed a large campus in Culpeper County, Virginia, which was sold and taken over by EdgeCore.
The data center Minooka has already approved is a different project: Equinix's campus on roughly 300 acres north of the village. Village administrator Dan Duffy said Equinix plans a build of about 10 years, starting with three or four AI buildings and then a large substation. Equinix will also reimburse the village for water and sewer lines it ran under Interstate 80 up to Holt Road and over to Ridge Road.
