Cielo Digital Infrastructure New Lenox data center, New Lenox, Illinois

Cielo Digital Infrastructure lists a 300 megawatt, 141-acre data center campus in New Lenox, Will County, Illinois, on its website, but no application has been filed with the village. At the New Lenox Village Board meeting on August 10, 2026, Mayor Baldermann said there is false information that a data center is coming: "This is not true and we are not entertaining any data centers," the minutes record him saying.

Cielo, founded in 2023 and owned by the Texas investment firm Arroyo Investors, lists projects in several states, including a second Illinois site at Minooka. It sold an earlier campus in Culpeper County, Virginia, to Edgecore, and announced a $2.1 billion, 300 megawatt campus in Gaffney, South Carolina, in June 2025.

Residents have raised the issue anyway. At the same August meeting, Terry Nolan told the board he opposes data centers in New Lenox. In March 2026, Janet Diaz of Joliet told trustees she opposed "the new data center that is proposed to be constructed" and said she would join a protest, the minutes say.

Any data center proposal would go to the New Lenox Village Board, led by Baldermann with Trustees Christopherson, Scalise, Madsen, Wilson, Gugliuzza and Reiser. Public comment is taken at its regular meetings at Village Hall, One Veterans Parkway. The mayor's August 2026 statement is the latest word on the project.
