Fort Hood Data Center, Coryell, Texas

The U.S. Army is offering underused land at Fort Hood, in Coryell County, Texas, for a commercial data center, one of four Army installations included in a request for proposals alongside Fort Bliss, Fort Bragg and Dugway Proving Ground. Bidders would lease the land for 50 years under the Army's Enhanced Use Lease program, a deal that lets a private company build on military land long-term, and proposals were due February 23, 2026.

Contracting documents show the Fort Hood parcel lies "within ½ mile" of homes and businesses, and bidders must describe outreach to assess "local sentiment and any risks or opposition" to the project. University of Tulsa economist Jason Walter said the Fort Hood documents note that nearby Copperas Cove "will likely be affected as well as some of their water resources," and warned a data center on federal land "could be exempt or complicate local taxation while requiring more infrastructure."

In late March 2026 the Army said it had "conditionally selected" investment firms to build data centers at Fort Bliss and Dugway, but it has named no developer for Fort Hood. Outside the gate, the City of Killeen was approached in December 2025 about a separate data center nearby, but city spokeswoman Torrie Bethany said no formal application had been submitted. The Department of the Army is still reviewing proposals for Fort Hood and has not named a winner.
