Mineral Gap Data Center, Wise, Virginia

The Mineral Gap data center campus in Wise County, Virginia, is run by DP Facilities as a 65,000-square-foot, Uptime Institute Tier III certified facility on 22 acres in the Lonesome Pine Regional Business and Technology Park, built first to serve U.S. agency clients and their contractors. The company says it offers up to 45 megawatts of power and that future phases would add more than 200,000 square feet on more than 50 acres of adjacent land under option.

Mineral Gap is powered in part by a 3.4-megawatt solar array built on former strip-mined land, which the Daily Yonder called the first abandoned mine land converted to solar in Virginia. DP Facilities lists armed security around the clock, anti-ram fencing and a blast berm among its security measures.

Wise County officials are separately planning the Wise Innovation Hub, a roughly 2 million-square-foot data center complex with its own natural gas power plant, at the same business park. Red Post Energy signed a letter of intent in December 2025 to design that plant, and by April 2026 was studying whether to run it on hydrogen instead, Virginia Business reported.

Brian Falin, Wise County's industrial development supervisor, said he does not expect the hub to be a heavy water user and that officials plan to increase public outreach this year. "We're not going to rush this. We fully understand that our community is going to need to be involved in this process," Falin said. A 2020 regional study named the park one of three prime coalfield sites for data centers, pointing to cooling with 51-degree water from old mines nearby.
