Oxford Quantum Circuits Data Center, New York County, New York

Oxford Quantum Circuits (OQC) installed New York City's first quantum computer in September 2025 inside a data center that Digital Realty runs in the Google-owned carrier hotel at 111 8th Avenue in Chelsea, Manhattan, New York County. The system is paired with an Nvidia Grace Hopper superchip, and OQC's chief executive, Gerald Mullally, called it "the industry's first quantum AI data center."

Mullally said OQC expected to spend "tens of millions of dollars" over three to five years, partly on Nvidia chips, and planned to open the center to the wider market in 2026 after starting with select customers. Google bought 111 8th Avenue, a carrier hotel, in 2010 in a deal reported at around $1.8 billion.

Mullally said banks were among the interested customers: "We are embedding it within their secure infrastructure in New York so they can access it in the same way they access the rest of their computing infrastructure." OQC, spun out of the University of Oxford in 2017, raised $40.5 million in 2022 and $100 million in 2024, and plans to install a more powerful quantum computer by 2028.

The installation sits inside an existing building and is far smaller than the scale New York's statewide pause targets: in July 2026 Gov. Kathy Hochul signed an executive order blocking construction of data centers above 50 megawatts for up to a year while the state writes new environmental and grid rules.
