Vint Hill Corners data center, Warrenton, Virginia

Vint Hill Corners LLC plans a data center campus of one or two buildings, up to two stories, on about 50 acres at 4295 Aiken Drive in Vint Hill, near Warrenton, in Fauquier County, Virginia. In May 2024 the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 to exempt the project from Vint Hill's new, stricter zoning rules, so it can proceed without a special permit. The county is now reviewing the developer's site plan, the next step, which is decided by staff rather than at a public hearing.

The exemption settled a dispute running since at least October 2023 over whether Vint Hill's zoning allowed a data center on the site. Under a compromise worked out by County Attorney Tracy Gallehr, the developer can choose 45-foot buildings, rooftop equipment included, or taller buildings with larger setbacks and smaller footprints.

Supervisor Ike Broaddus, whose district includes Vint Hill, opposed it as too close to homes: "To them, it makes a very big difference whether we let them (be grandfathered) or not. It changes the land's value dramatically," he said.

Vint Hill already hosts an OVHcloud data center, which plans a second building, and CyrusOne's 870,000-square-foot campus at Vint Hill Road and Vint Hill Parkway, both also exempt from the new rules. The Vint Hill district allows 1.3 million square feet of data center development by right, without public hearings, and the Piedmont Environmental Council has urged the county to build out only what is already approved.

In September 2026 the county Planning Commission unanimously recommended zoning changes that would confine new data centers to that one district and require a special exception permit for every future one, saying it "is not to become the 'Data Center District.'"
