Platte County's big project is Project Kestrel, a data center campus in the KCI corridor announced by Port KC in October 2025 as a $100 billion development by "one of the world's leading tech companies": six hyperscale data centers on 379 acres inside Hunt Midwest's KCI-29 Logistics Park. Shenandoah Computing LLC, a company associated with Google, has since bought 430 acres there, with 44 acres set aside for an Evergy substation. No construction timeline has been given, though officials have suggested work could start in 2026.
The deal gives the project a 35-year exemption from property and construction sales taxes. Port KC says it will still produce more than $110 million in new tax revenue over the bond term, against about $1,400 a year from the land today, plus about 50 jobs per phase paying above $100,000 on average. Platte County Presiding Commissioner Scott Fricker objected in November 2025, saying the tax breaks benefit one of the world's "largest and richest corporations" at residents' expense.
The county's table also lists two existing facilities in Kansas City: Lambda's AI Factory, a converted 2009-built building where Lambda plans 24 megawatts of computing power at launch with room to grow past 100 megawatts, serving a single customer under a multi-year deal, and a Nebius colocation site.
