Google Berlin data center, Brandenburg, Germany

Google has abandoned its plan for a data center in Mittenwalde, Brandenburg, Germany, a site about 20 kilometers south of Berlin's BER airport. The company had meant to build a new Berlin-Brandenburg cloud region on about 30 hectares in the Schenkendorf part of town, but pulled out in July 2025 after a "thorough review of feasibility, general market developments, and our business priorities," Data Center Dynamics reported.

Google began buying the land in 2022, after a long search reported by the Tagesspiegel that September. A Google spokesperson confirmed the purchase but said there was then no development plan allowing a data center and no firm commitment from local utilities to supply enough power, the Berliner Zeitung reported. The land was farmland already earmarked for commercial use, and the project was expected to bring about 100 full time jobs.

Entwicklungsstadt, a Berlin development news site, reported that Google had weighed feasibility, economic conditions and its own priorities, and pointed to the site's distance from existing network hubs and questions over power supply. Google's Berlin cloud region, which launched in 2023, runs in data centers it leases from other operators. In November 2025 the company announced a 5.5 billion euro investment in Germany centered on Frankfurt instead: a new data center in Dietzenbach and further building at its Hanau campus.
