Meta Henrico data center, Sandston, Virginia

Meta's Henrico data center is one of the largest sites in White Oak Technology Park, in Sandston in eastern Henrico County, Virginia, where Meta broke ground in 2017. Meta says it has invested more than $1 billion in Virginia, supports more than 200 operational jobs, and that construction peaked at about 1,500 trade workers.

Meta says it worked with Dominion Energy to pay the full cost of the energy the data center uses, with eight projects in Virginia adding 700 megawatts of new renewable energy for it. It says it has given more than $4.2 million in direct funding to Henrico County area schools and nonprofits, and has provided more than 200 local grants and sponsorships since 2019.

The park keeps growing. QTS, which already runs 12 operating buildings at its neighboring White Oak hub, is moving ahead with expansions that would add 1,100 acres and bring its campus to 26 buildings and about 8 million square feet of data center space, Richmond BizSense reported in May 2026.

QTS has applied to the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality to add 370 diesel fired emergency generators, on top of the 544 generators and 11 cooling towers it is already permitted to run. "These systems are for emergency back-up purposes only and do not continuously run," QTS said in a statement.

The Henrico County Board of Supervisors decides new data center cases in the county. On June 10, 2025, the board adopted a Data Center Comprehensive Plan Amendment to guide those decisions.
