Prime Data Centers data centers: 15 sites mapped

Prime Data Centers is a Dallas-headquartered developer of hyperscale and wholesale data centers, led by founder and chief executive Nicholas Laag. It is backed by investors including Macquarie Capital, Ares Management, Siemens Financial Services and Nuveen. DCD reported that it runs 13 campuses spanning 28 data centers, with about 4 GW of operating and planned capacity in markets including Chicago, Dallas, Silicon Valley, Frankfurt and the Nordics. Its newest projects bring their own power, and that is where it meets resistance.

In Hanover Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania, Prime wants a seven-building campus of about 1.8 million square feet at the Starpointe Business Park, on reclaimed strip-mine land near Burgettstown. It would run on its own gas plant fed by a lateral off the Rover Pipeline. WESA put the plant at 450 MW; at a hearing, Prime's project lead put it at 350 MW. More than 200 residents packed the local fire hall for the conditional use hearings, and about three dozen won party status to cross-examine witnesses and appeal. "I'm worried about the health issues that can come from this, the noise," said Barbara Minges Sheperd, who lives across the street. Prime says it hopes to start work in early 2027, with 40 to 60 permanent jobs.

Prime is also buying land from UGI Energy Services in Pennsylvania's northern tier for an on-site gas-fired power plant, with UGI planning more than $100 million of pipeline and related work. Neither company has named the county. Former state environment secretary David Hess told WPSU that data center developers tend to seek places "that typically may not have zoning," where "local officials frequently are caught flat-footed." In Denmark, Prime announced in February 2023 its first campus outside the US: three data centers of four halls each, 124 MW, on Energivej in Sæby, with waste heat going to the town's district heating; the mayor of Frederikshavn Municipality said the local plan was already in place and only an investor had been missing. It has also proposed ESB01, a 550 MW campus in Esbjerg that entered environmental assessment in March 2026, with first capacity targeted for late 2029.
