Fort Worth's biggest data center fight is over Black Mountain Power's $10 billion campus in the southeast, on land the company owns at Lon Stephenson Road and Forest Hill Drive, between Forest Hill, Kennedale and Everman. After council members declined to vote on revisions in May and June, the city council approved a revised 187-acre site plan 7-4 on August 25, 2026: four buildings instead of the 18 first proposed, up to 70 feet tall, with a 300-foot buffer from homes.

Sue Weston, whose historic Weston Gardens sits behind the site, told CBS News Texas she fears for the birds and her wedding business: "The cooling systems from the data centers and stuff -- the vibrations will just end up cracking all the rocks." Councilmember Chris Nettles, who represents the area, backs the project: "We don't believe that it's going to affect the garden." In southwest Fort Worth, Edged Data Centers had proposed a $1 billion, 186-acre campus at Veale Ranch and sought a 50 percent, 10-year tax break; after council members stalled the vote in February 2026, Edged rescinded its application.

The zoning commission voted 7-4 on July 8 against a draft city ordinance that would have limited data centers to industrial zones and required 250-foot setbacks from homes, calling it too thin; Commissioner Matt McCoy said, "I can appreciate the work, it's insufficient at this time." Five council members called for a citywide moratorium the next day. The council voted unanimously on August 12 to start a formal moratorium process that would not affect approved projects like Black Mountain. The next public hearing is set for November 10, 2026, with a final vote due February 16, 2027.
