Data centers in Jones County, Georgia: 1 project mapped

Eagle Rock Partners has tried twice to build a data center on the same 600-plus acres in Jones County, both times withdrawing before a vote. In September 2025 the developer sought to rezone land at Highway 18 and Bethlehem Church Road for the Crooked Creek Technology Park, a 1.8-million-square-foot facility; residents organized as "No Data Centers in Jones County," and Eagle Rock withdrew by email on October 20, hours before the zoning hearing. "If they choose to reapply, we will provide the same public notice," planning director Tim Pitrowski said.

The county passed a 90-day moratorium, then in January 2026 adopted an ordinance letting data centers into a conditional-use district at the Griswoldville Industrial Park, with a 200-foot setback, buffers and decommissioning rules. April Lipscomb of the Southern Environmental Law Center called the setback "utterly inadequate." "We walked into a predetermined decision tonight," said Dustin Riley, who started the opposition group. "We expect the applicant is going to be Eagle Rock again."

In February, 17 residents sued to overturn the ordinance, arguing the county gave improper notice and had been negotiating its language and timing with Eagle Rock beforehand. The county filed a motion to dismiss in March; a hearing on that motion has not been set, and the development authority's attorney said in June it could come in 2027. The authority also put a $25 million sale of the industrial park's full 956 acres to Eagle Rock on hold in March over "sticking points" in the deal.
