Data centers in Brazoria County, Texas: 1 project mapped

Brazoria County's only operating data center is small, and its neighbors say they can feel it. Giga Energy's 17-megawatt, air-cooled site on 6 acres just outside the city of Brazoria began operating in March 2026, next to about 10 families, The Facts reported. "Since it started, it hasn't shut off, and the noise is constant, 24/7, and is very annoying," said Wesley Burnett, who lives a couple of hundred feet from its fence. The site sits in Brazoria's extraterritorial jurisdiction, where the city has no say. Giga told Houston Public Media the site is owned by a Fort Worth investment group, that it had commissioned a sound study and would build sound walls this fall, and that the site "is fully compliant with all local laws and regulations."

Much bigger projects are coming. Nightpeak Energy of Oakland plans the Old Ocean data centers on a 158-acre site off FM 524 near Sweeny, powered by its own 310-megawatt gas plant, Bulldog Power; The Facts put the investment at $3 billion. In March 2026 commissioners voted 5-0 against the reinvestment zone its four 100% tax abatements needed; the campus could begin energizing as soon as 2027. "I would bet you money they do this project, and we can't do a damn thing about it," said County Judge Matt Sebesta.

CleanSpark announced in January that it would develop a 447-acre data center site near Angleton, with a 300-megawatt load expandable to 600. On June 9 the court unanimously passed a resolution opposing any data center that does not safeguard the grid, water, farmland and public infrastructure, and asking the Legislature for setbacks and local authority. Sebesta called it "not worth the paper it is printed on" unless residents went to Austin: "They don't need tax abatements. We're not going to give them tax abatements. They're still gonna come." Alvin's council passed its own resolution opposing data centers in city limits.
