Google's data center near Leesburg, in Loudoun County, Virginia, sits on a 57-acre property in the Stonewall Business Park that the company bought for $31 million in 2017, just west of Ashburn's Data Center Alley. Google confirmed the purchase alongside a 91-acre site in Arcola, shifting from leasing wholesale data center space in Northern Virginia to building its own campuses there. "We've purchased property in Northern Virginia to increase our capacity and meet the growing demand for Google's services in the area," Google public affairs manager Liz Schwab said at the time.

The site anchors a cluster of data center campuses south of the Leesburg Executive Airport. TA Realty's campus next door grew from a planned 300 megawatts to a 430-megawatt lease of five buildings and 1.9 million square feet, signed with a single cloud provider in 2023. "This was probably the last remaining large parcel where you can build a campus," TA Realty's Allison O'Rourke said of her firm's site.

Loudoun has the highest concentration of data centers in the world, and data centers paid $1.2 billion in county property taxes in fiscal 2026, 39 percent of the county's budget. In March 2025 the Board of Supervisors voted 7-2 to end automatic approval of new data centers, so new projects now need a special exception with public hearings. On September 15, 2026, the board voted 7-1-1 to have staff draft a resolution pausing new data center applications for up to 12 months; the pause is not yet in force. Leesburg's own supervisor, Kristen Umstattd, voted against it, and Catoctin's Caleb Kershner abstained.

The pause would apply only to new applications, and the board is expected to take a final vote on it on October 20, 2026.
