Crusoe data centers: 8 sites mapped

Crusoe is expanding its Stargate data center campus in Abilene, Texas, built for Oracle and OpenAI and now also serving Microsoft, to about 2.1 gigawatts of power. The site runs on its own gas power plant, and on August 5, 2026 the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality gave preliminary approval to grow that plant from 10 turbines to 49. State Rep. Stan Lambert asked for a public meeting in Abilene, and the public comment period stays open until that meeting is held.

Neighbors say they were never told. Omaira Garcia, an Air Force veteran who lives about 500 yards from the plant, said she learned of the project only after construction began in 2024. "We weren't given any time to understand what this impact was going to be on us," she told Floodlight, in reporting published by the Texas Tribune. "We're trapped here." Her neighbor Paul Daniel, 81, said, "We were never advised or anything." Crusoe received an 85 percent property tax break on the project, and some homes sit within half a mile of the plant, according to the Texas Observer.

Crusoe also helped start a 1.8 gigawatt campus called Project Jade in Laramie County, Wyoming, approved unanimously by county commissioners on January 6, 2026, but it left the project around April 2026. Its partner Tallgrass, which is building a gas plant next door to power the site, has kept developing it directly with the data center client and says it has grown to 2.7 gigawatts. The Hyndman Homesites Homeowners Association had raised concerns about wells into the aquifer, turbine emissions, noise and wastewater ponds. "You don't know until you punch a hole in it what you're dealing with," the association's president, Randy Fox, said of the groundwater.
