Data centers in Sacramento County, California: 3 projects mapped
Link Logistics, a Blackstone subsidiary, has been talking with the Sacramento Municipal Utility District since February about a data center in southeastern Sacramento that would draw more than 50 megawatts of power, the largest in the region. SMUD will not give the exact size or site, but the emails describe an industrial complex with a solar farm, which matches Depot Park near Fruitridge and Florin Perkins roads, where Link Logistics owns property. No application has been filed; the project would need city approval and state environmental review.
The company met Councilmember Eric Guerra on April 15 "to begin advocating his support for the entitlement process," and paid SMUD $250,000 for a feasibility study. SMUD staff helped it seek $122.7 million in federal grid money. Backers hope to open by early 2029. Guerra, who represents the area and is running for county supervisor, now says: "Until those questions are answered I'm opposed to anything moving forward." After the news broke in September, Mayor Kevin McCarty asked city staff to study data center impacts; the city has no policy for large data centers.

Opponents cite air, water and secrecy. "This valley tends to store all kinds of pollution because of its geographic setup," said Herman Barahona of Sacramento's Environmental Justice Coalition. John Vignocchi of the Sacramento Region Business Leaders Council called fears about water and power use "doomerism."
The region already has at least 24 smaller data centers. NTT runs the largest, a 52.7-megawatt campus near Natomas and North Sacramento. In McClellan Business Park, Prime Data Centers broke ground in May 2026 on SMF02, an 18-megawatt building next to its operating SMF01.
