Data centers in Contra Costa County, California: 1 project mapped
Pittsburg approved AVAIO Digital's Perseus data center in 2024, and many residents only found out this year. The three-story, 347,740-square-foot building on the former Delta View Golf Course, beside the Contra Costa Canal on West Leland Road, would draw 99 megawatts of power, about as much as 10,000 homes, and AVAIO says it could later grow to 500 megawatts. It sits near a middle school, with 37 backup generators.
More than 300 residents packed a council meeting on June 15, 2026, and a petition to ban the project drew 13,000 signatures in a week. "I'd appreciate if we could get a moratorium," organizer Amhari Perkins said at an August 3 study session, where more than 60 people spoke. Construction workers spoke in favor. Councilmember Arlene Kobata, who supports the project, said in September she had been shoved at a public event and had received death threats.

Power would come from the city-owned Pittsburg Power Company, not the PG&E supply residents use, so city officials say residents' rates will not rise. AVAIO says the building will use under 4,000 gallons of water a day. The city sold AVAIO the land for more than $10 million and expects $6 million to $8 million a year. The Center for Biological Diversity sued over the environmental review, then dropped the suit in a settlement requiring renewable power, recycled water and a $750,000 payment for climate projects.
In east Contra Costa, Oakley became the first Bay Area city to halt data centers: its council voted unanimously in April 2026 for a 45-day moratorium that state law lets it extend for up to two years. It came after a developer dropped data centers from the 164-acre Bridgehead industrial project.
