A 180-megawatt data center is planned inside Strasburg's industrial park, on land zoned industrial where, according to the town, the "data center use is by-right." Takanock's Project Tallmadge would sit on about 80 to 87 acres near Interstate 81's Exit 296 and the Mercury Paper plant. Takanock, founded in 2023 by Kenneth Davies, formerly head of Google Energy and later of Microsoft's global renewable strategy, and funded by DigitalBridge, says it will bring its own power: 400 megawatts of on-site natural gas generation, with closed-loop cooling. It expects remaining permits by the third quarter of 2027 and construction to start then; the county says the work could run from late 2027 to around 2030. Takanock promises "hundreds of construction jobs" and more tax revenue for the town. Opposition dates from March 2025, when the project first surfaced, over air quality, noise, pollution, water and power; an online petition drew 73 signatures.

On June 15, 2026, residents packed Strasburg High School for a public forum moderated by Mayor Brandy Hawkins Boies, who stressed it was not a council meeting or a vote. An 11-person panel worked through 56 submitted questions on emissions, public health, noise, fire response and oversight. It included the National Parks Conservation Association, the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, Friends of the North Fork of the Shenandoah River and the Alliance for the Shenandoah Valley, alongside a geologist, the engineering firm Bowman Consulting and Takanock. Boies said she hoped people left understanding "how we got here and what our process is moving forward."
