Google's data center campus in the RailPort Business Park at Midlothian, in Ellis County, Texas, is getting a fifth building. The state filing by Sharka LLC, Google's company on the site, describes a 288,000 square foot building at 3411 Railport Parkway, started in January 2026 and due to be finished in February 2027, at an estimated $491.7 million. When the filing was first reported in December 2025 the figure was $880 million, at 3800 Railport Parkway.

The first building opened in 2022 as part of Google's Dallas cloud region. Midlothian landed it in 2018 with a 10-year abatement of all personal property tax and 85 percent of improvement tax, in return for at least $500 million of investment and 40 jobs. "While we do not have a confirmed timeline for development for the site, we want to ensure that we have the option to further grow should our business demand it," Google's Andrew Silvestri said at the time.

Across Ellis County the argument has since turned to what data centers owe in return. Compass Datacenters, which is planning another facility in Red Oak, gave Ellis County $15 million for a new animal shelter and donated a $12.6 million building to Texas State Technical College, while a county tax abatement for its proposed 890 acre property was withdrawn before the commissioners met on June 23, 2026, in response to what Compass called the noise around it. Susie Hall of Waxahachie told the commissioners: "I hate to think that we're going to be obligated to Compass because there will be something they're going to want in return." Governor Greg Abbott said data centers "got to bring their own money, bring their own power, reuse their own water," and that he intended to repeal the state's data center tax exemptions. Google also runs a second Ellis County data center at Red Oak, part of $40 billion it says it will spend in Texas through 2027.
