Metrobloks data center, Liberty, Missouri

Metrobloks plans Liberty's first data center at 2515 Old Hughes Road in Liberty, Clay County, Missouri: three buildings on about 29 acres, starting with a two-story, 177,000-square-foot building that received planning permission in December 2025. The Los Angeles-based company announced the $1.4 billion campus in March 2026. The city says the three buildings are projected to use 150MW of electricity.

Liberty officials approved $1.4 billion in bonds and $202.7 million in tax abatements over 25 years, and Metrobloks agreed to contribute $28 million over that time to the nonprofit Liberty Institute for Science and Ethics. Development director Brandon Smith said the city won't be on the hook to repay the bonds, which Metrobloks will buy. "We believe this is the first step in building a high-tech foundation to our city's economy going forward," Mayor Greg Canuteson said.

The city says the site was already zoned industrial, so the project went through the Planning & Zoning Commission on Dec. 9, 2025, and the City Council on Dec. 15, both with public hearings, after a legal notice and letters to owners within 185 feet. The city, which says it has heard residents' concerns about data centers, says a closed-loop cooling system will put little demand on its water plant, with higher rates or reduced flow if the site exceeds set limits.

The City Council has already approved the project and its incentives, and Metrobloks has not shared a timeline or a construction start.
