Soluna data centers: 8 sites mapped

Soluna Holdings, based in Albany, New York, builds data centers for bitcoin mining and increasingly for AI beside wind, solar and hydroelectric plants, using power that would otherwise go to waste. As of August 1, 2026 it operated about 192 megawatts across three energized sites in Texas and Kentucky, with more under construction and a Texas pipeline it puts at about 6.3 gigawatts. In August 2026 it enlarged several projects for AI: Rosa grew from 187 to 242 megawatts, Hedy from 120 to 198, and Ellen, in Cameron County, from 100 to 145.

Its main campus is Dorothy, south of Silverton in Briscoe County, where two buildings run on the 150 megawatt Briscoe Wind Farm next door. Soluna bought the wind farm for $53 million in April 2026, then closed in August on 397 more acres for Dorothy 3, an AI campus of up to 300 megawatts. Briscoe County Judge Rank Cogdell said the site has "filled in a gap" left when the county lost tax abatement money from the wind farms, and commissioners are weighing an abatement for the larger plan.

In the Rio Grande Valley, Willacy County welcomes Project Kati for its taxable value, but neighboring Cameron County has said it will not offer data centers tax abatements and had received no permit applications as of May 2026. Since August 3, 2026, new data center connections to the Texas grid have been on hold while state regulators audit projects in the queue. In Kentucky, Calloway County's fiscal court took up a 12-month data center moratorium in July 2026 that would block any expansion of Soluna's existing bitcoin mine in Murray.
